Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has welcomed the addition of Vitolo to the team.
He was linked to the club but there were reports that he could also renew at Sevilla. Vitolo arrived at Sevilla on a short term basis where he was expected to stay on.
However Atletico convinced the player to join them instead of staying at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. The multiple-time Europa League winners are unhappy that the player finally opted to join the former Vicente Calderon dwellers.
“I will not reveal what was said during those talks. I was close to renewing with Sevilla, but Atleti pushed really hard to sign me. The deal has a lot of positive factors from a sporting and economic point of view,” the Canary Islander said.
Vitolo has been presented as a Las Palmas star until January where he would move to EstadioWanda Metropolitano. The transfer ban at the club would not allow Atleti register new players until the winter window.
Torres praised the addition of the Rojiblanco. He then proceeded to call Vitolo, whom he shares the same agent with. Just like how Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard called to welcome him when he arrived at Anfield, Torres wished Vitolo the best as he arrives at the club.
Torres says the new addition would be welcomed to the dressing with open arms when he joins them. He offered to help out if there was any help he required. Koke also reached out to him to welcome him to the new club.
The club had to use this method to remain competitive after losing the transfer ban appeal at CAS.
