TORRES WINS GOLDEN BOOT

Fernando Torres once again managed to win a Golden Boot award of the major tournament after he lifted the Golden Boot for the Confederations cup. He scored five goals over the course of the tournament, which was the same number secured by Neymar and Fred. However, the Chelsea striker was able to lift this trophy as a result of creating more goals. Torres, though, was disappointed because Spain were unable to win this trophy. After the match, he said that this defeat will be a great motivation for him to help Spain win the 2014 World Cup.

Spain will be going into the World Cup as the holders of the competition, but this defeat will have seriously put some doubts into their minds. This will also have given a lot of confidence to their opposition after it has been proven that this Spanish team can also be beaten. Brazil have been clearly the best team in the tournament and it was proven by a humbling 3-0 defeat of Spain in the final. Neymar was once again brilliant, while Fred scored the goals by being at the right place at the right time.

Torres came into the Confederations cup after a mediocre season with Chelsea in which he scored just over 20 goals from more than 60 matches.

“This team doesn’t need a wake-up call, nor do we need a defeat to regain our motivation. If there is something positive to be taken from the match, it’s this: it confirmed something that we already knew, that it’s not going to be easy to beat Brazil on their own patch. That said, in one year’s time we’ll be back here as world champions to defend what’s ours. Football is great for that because you always get another chance,” said Torres after the defeat.
